Warming Hut & Cabin Project
We have heard from a number of long-term friends of CHNSA that an enhanced facility at the parking lot would be desirable in creating a cozier and more welcoming scene for skiers. It's hard to argue this point! The existing 10’ x 14’ warming hut was constructed primarily with donated materials and time, and the post and beam frame was prepared by ( ), a talented builder from Shelburne. Will our future include construction of a new, larger version of the original hut? We’ll continue this conversation and keep you posted as other priorities have been realized. This will be down the road a bit, so maybe a 3rd Annual CHN Music Festival will help us reach this goal!
And, speaking of trailside shelters, skiers this past winter may have noticed two shelters located along Stagecoach Road and available for booking through the VT Huts Association. CHNSA has proposed to the Dept of FPR a hut or yurt, to be located in the sheltered area at the base of the “mini headwall” on the backcountry Lion’s Ridge Trail. This is a beautiful spot just inside the CHSP boundary that offers spectacular, close-up views of the Hump. We are waiting for approval of the new long-term management plan for the Camel’s Hump State Park to see if this concept will be endorsed by Vermont FPR.
